This week’s project is brought to us by Rogue Engineer. I made a couple of these for as Christmas presents, but as it would turn out, Nicole got her’s early! She always gets her way.
The build was very straight forward and a lot of fun. I did make a couple of modifications to the original design: 1. I added felt pad backing to the frame as no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the chicken wire to lay flat enough for the rubber bumpers to protect my wall. This was a problem. 2. I didn’t actually age the material. I simply used Minwax’s Dark Walnut Stain.
Now, if you’re new to woodworking and especially new to wood finishing, Minwax is a great entry-level starter. I do recommend pre-conditioning with a pre-stain conditioner.
